In Loving Memory of
Elizabeth C. Long Furia
Elizabeth “Liz” Long Furia, the Chef/Owner of Elizabeth’s an American Bistro passed away Saturday May 10, 2025 after a courageous, 6-month battle with cancer. She was just 62 years old.
As many of our loyal patrons know, Liz was deeply committed and involved in our community. Liz opened Elizabeth’s an American Bistro, the restaurant of her dreams, in 1997. She used her artistic talents, her boundless energy and her exceptionally high standards to create an establishment that transformed the dining experience in the Susquehanna Valley. As her staff, former employees and I can attest, ninety-nine percent was never good enough for Liz. She strove for perfection, in service of her wonderful guests.
Liz’s legacy will live on. Her staff and I remain committed to providing the same delicious cuisine, eclectic menu, outstanding service and inviting “bistro” ambiance, with the same impeccable standards and attention to detail that was Liz’s trademark. Before passing, Liz told me that this is what she wanted for her customers and her faithful employees. As her husband, I say with pride, that this is also what Liz deserves.
On a personal note, I bear witness that her treatments were tough, her spirit was tougher and her courage inspirational. Liz passed with dignity and grace. I miss her terribly but know that she will always be in my heart.
